  • Parent University is a comprehensive, two-generational family engagement program based on research and best practices that began in February 2015 at the Learning Community Center of North Omaha. Parent University provides individualized and center-based support and services to families whose children are eligible to participate. The center-based learning was developed around four major areas: Parenting, Life Skills & Wellness, School Success, and Leadership. Under each major area, there are a variety of different courses parents can enroll in and learn from.

  • Parent University is free of cost. We require the parent’s commitment to the program.

  • Parent University is a comprehensive, two-generational family engagement program based on research and best practices. A two-generational approach allows the program to focus on the whole family while creating opportunities for addressing the needs of both children and adults in their lives simultaneously.

    Parent University is here to support our parents and children. When you become a member, you will have access to numerous courses to strengthen your professional and parenting skills. Each member works with an Educational Navigator to create individualized goals to support the whole family.

  • The Learning Community works with children and families to challenge the opportunity gap through early childhood education and family engagement. The program provides individualized and center-based support and services to families whose children are under six and reside within the boundaries of the Learning Community of Douglas and Sarpy Counties Achievement Sub-Council 2. The boundaries set by the Learning Community allow Parent University to take a targeted approach to best support our families.

  • At Parent University we believe that Parents are the experts in their children’s education. When you join Parent University you will be expected to participate and engage in your child’s educational needs and work in partnership with our team to identify what educational resources would benefit your family. Furthermore, we ask our participants to fully participate in our program’s components: attend two Parent University courses a semester, participate in 2 home visits per month and be involved in your child’s education.

  • Yes, childcare is provided onsite for members while they are in courses and transportation is available if needed.

  • The shortest course is three weeks and the longest course offered is twelve weeks. Parent University does offer one-day workshops and forums, but they do not count towards the two-course minimum requirement. Members are encouraged to take courses based on their need.

  • Parent University is located inside of the Learning Community Center of North Omaha (1612 N 24th Street in Omaha, Nebraska).
